Artsy Fartsy

I’m sure most of us feel paralyzed whenever we don’t have internet connection. Our main forms of communication, jobs, and virtual social lives get impaired whenever we’re not online.

Some go on days of “disconnection” when they’re camping, going on retreats, or basically in any outdoor setting. But to be at home, stuck for days, and not have internet?! I almost went crazy (an exaggerated truth)!

I was looking for things to do, because I’ve migrated to e-books as well and couldn’t download new books into my Kindle (you see, even my reading is internet-dependent). Then I saw my friend Agie’s birthday gift to me – a DIY purse kit from The Makery. Well, it’s been sitting on my desk for months now, but I never found the time to work on it because… I don’t know. Anyway, since there’s nothing to do, voila!

I learned sewing when I was in grade school, and I was surprised that I still knew how to do the basics. I just needed to polish my stitches, but it turned out pretty good.

The kit included a pattern and instructions for making the purse. There were some sewing jargons that I didn’t know the meaning of, but I just winged it based on the illustrations.

It’s not perfect, but I was so happy with how it turned out. I was able to create something cute, all because we didn’t have internet connection. :))

During this downtime, I was also able to practice my calligraphy, and had a few ideas for crafts too. Getting off cyberspace, even for just a day, re-calibrated my mind, and made me feel more calm (could I be more introverted, hahaha!).

I think I’ll make this a regular thing; going off the grid. Who knows what I can come up with. 🙂
