Alone Doesn’t Mean Lonely

I’m the type of person who likes being alone. I watch movies in the cinema by myself, I get a table for one at restaurants, and I travel solo. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy the company of friends, and I love every moment spent with family, but I’m just really happy when I do things in solitude.

Watched Coco a few weeks after it was first released; hence, the empty cinema. Cried so much in this movie!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was the first movie I went to without company. I forget if it’s because nobody was available, or if I just felt like going to the cinema out of boredom. At first I felt like a loser for not having anybody with me, but as the movie went on, I actually found it fun and relaxing. After that, I’ve gone to see a number of other movies, but with the thought of asking other people first if they want to come with me. I mean, I also get hurt when a nice film comes out, and a friend already saw it without asking me. I have feelings too. :)) What I’m trying to say is, don’t let something pass just because nobody wants to do it with you.

Peace and quiet in Siargao, on my 32nd birthday. I had a boyfriend then, and he was so understanding of my wish to go there by myself.

I remember dreaming of going to Santorini, but I always pass up the idea because Greece is my honeymoon destination. Hahaha! It was so easy to go there when I was working for an airline company, and before COVID happened. Until now, I’m still regretting why I “saved” places to go to until I have a husband. I know it’s not too late, but I could have already been there! Mamma Mia 2 could have been my life story – running off to Greece, and finding 3 boyfriends there, right? But in all seriousness, traveling solo gives you a sense of accomplishment for being independent, and figuring things out on your own; and freedom to do anything you want. A must, at least once in your life!

Don’t even get me started with dining out alone. I love food, and I don’t need anybody else just to eat somewhere nice. I dress up, put on make-up, and the servers think I’m waiting for my date because I’m ordering for two. LOL.

Some people just like being alone, and that is okay. Please don’t assume that we’re always going through a breakup and soul-searching (ugh, hate that), or we’re anti-social. We’re just natural solo acts, like Beyoncé. That being said, don’t be afraid to be alone, because it doesn’t mean you’re lonely. It just means you’re too awesome that the best company is yourself. 🙂
